The Chief Health Officer has issued an epidemic thunderstorm asthma forecast of HIGH Wednesday 27 November 2024 for the North Central and West and South Gippsland districts. This means there is an increased chance of an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event occurring.

Epidemic thunderstorm asthma is where a large number of people suddenly develop asthma symptoms over a short period of time and is thought to be triggered by a unique combination of high pollen levels and a certain type of thunderstorm. The Bureau of Meteorology works closely with the department to forecast the risk of an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event.

Please use this forecast to inform actions relevant to your personal or organisational plans and requirements.

Victoria is currently experiencing increased COVID-19 infections in the community, which is resulting in an increase of people being hospitalised with COVID-19.

This occurs at a time Victorians are planning increased gatherings in the lead up to the holiday period.

During this time, it is especially important to be mindful that those at greatest risk of becoming seriously ill from COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses are protected – this includes people aged 65 and above, people with a disability or chronic medical condition and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

For more details on protecting yourself and vulnerable Victorians from COVID-19, visit: www.health.vic.gov.au/health-alerts/increase-covid-19-activity

Check out the full conversation with 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻, a courageous voice in the fight against 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿. Brian was diagnosed just three months ago, but thanks to regular PSA tests starting at age 50, his cancer was caught early, before it spread, giving him options for treatment. After careful consideration with his doctors, Brian chose radiation therapy and is now halfway through his journey, with nine more treatments to go.

Brian's story is a powerful reminder: prostate cancer often shows no symptoms until it’s advanced. Regular screening could be the key to early detection and, most importantly, better outcomes.

Prostate cancer may not announce itself, but if you are over 50 or over 40 with a family history, and notice any of these symptoms, it's crucial to take action:

✸ Difficulty urinating
✸ Back pain
✸ Blood in urine
✸ Incontinence
✸ Painful ejaculation

Let’s break the silence on men’s health and encourage one another to take that essential step toward early detection.
